Patratu Railway Station

Patratu Railway Station (PTRU) is a vital transport junction serving an infrastructure layout of three platforms interconnected by a foot-over bridge. Beyond its role as a commercial transit station, Patratu Station is a primary transit point for travellers visiting the picturesque Patratu Valley and the Patratu Dam.

It is natively equipped with foundational passenger amenities such as active ticketing counters, sheltered passenger seating, and basic resting stalls. It experiences an average daily traffic of roughly 30 halting and passing trains, handling prominent regional linkages like the Palamu Express and Ranchi-Chopan Express. Because of its proximity to major freight corridors, the station tracks regularly host goods trains servicing local coal mines and industrial plants, including the prominent Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS).

Functioning under the jurisdiction of the Dhanbad Division within the East Central Railway (ECR) zone, the station acts as an essential gateway for passengers and massive freight movement. Situated at a comfortable elevation of 372 metres above sea level on Station Road, it provides structural connectivity to the surrounding mineral-rich industrial belts and scenic tourist hotspots.

Patratu Dam: A Historic Landmark

Built on the Nalkari River, the dam was originally constructed to store water for the Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) and to support nearby areas. The dam site was chosen after surveys identified the river basin and surrounding hills as suitable for water storage, and its development is linked to the engineering vision associated with Sir M. पीएसटीपीपी स्वास्थ्य केंद्र पुराने पीटीपीएस हॉस्पिटल का नाम है। पतरातू (थर्मल) के नाम से जाना जाने वाला यह छोटा सा शहर बदलाव के दौर से गुजर रहा है। एक बार जब एनटीपीसी द्वारा प्रबंधित नए पावर प्लांट चालू हो जाएंगे तो ऐसे कई बदलाव दिखाई देंगे।

PSTPP Health Centre is the name of the old PTPS Hospital. The small town known as Patratu (Thermal) is going through a transformation. Once the NTPC managed new power plants will be functional, a lot of many such changes will be visible.

PTPS High School, Patratu

हाई स्कूल की वो लाल ईंटों वाली पुरानी बिल्डिंग अब भी जस की तस खड़ी है। दीवारों पर समय की दरारों ने कब्ज़ा कर लिया है लेकिन दिल में जो यादें हैं वो आज भी नई लगती हैं। दोपहर की क्लास बंक कर के मैदान में बैठना, भुट्टा खाते हुए दुनिया को सुधारने की बातें करना और सबसे बढ़कर वो दोस्ती जो किसी भी नेटवर्क से ज़्यादा मजबूत थी।

उन दिनों न डेटा प्लान था, न ऑनलाइन स्टेटस बस एक कॉन्टैक्ट था — दिल का।

लगभग ढाई-तीन दशकों पहले स्कूल टाइम खत्म हुआ, हमारे कमाने-खाने के रास्ते अलग हो गए, शहर बदल गए और अब... सिर्फ ऑनलाइन प्रोफाइल है। मगर मन का क्या करें... वो भी कोई ऐप है क्या, जो लॉगआउट हो जाए?

हर बार जब फोन हाथ में लेता हूँ, सोचता हूँ — "एक कॉल करूँ?"

फिर उँगलियाँ कांप जाती हैं। सिर्फ प्रोफाइल पिक पर रुक जाती हैं और वहीं रुक जाती हैं उम्मीदें भी। बातचीत — typing... पर अटकी रहती है और अक्सर जवाब बिना रिप्लाई के बस "Seen" के दो नीले टिक...

एक दिन हिम्मत कर के मैसेज कर ही दिया: "मिलना कभी, बहुत दिन हो गए।" मेरा मैसेज तो सीन हुआ पर जवाब नहीं आया।

दिन बीतते गए। मैंने भी जैसे मान लिया था कि पुरानी यादें भी शायद "डेटा लिमिट" की तरह होती है। फिर एक शाम, एक रीयूनियन की खबर आई। "तो ग्रुप में मैसेज आया कि फिर वहीं से शुरू करते हैं जहाँ सिग्नल छूट गया था!" बस बातचीत फिर से शुरू हो गई — बिना “सिग्नल कवरेज” के इंतज़ार के। कभी-कभी, वाक़ई — एक कॉल या मैसेज हमारे एहसासों को डायल करने की काबिलियत रखता है।"
